The Net Neutrality Coup funded by a who’s who of left-liberal foundations.

December 23rd, 2010 · Corruption, Deception, Democrats, Ethics, Federal Spending, Government Control

By John Fund

The Federal Communications Commission’s new “net neutrality” rules, passed on a partisan 3-2 vote yesterday, represent a huge win for a slick lobbying campaign run by liberal activist groups and foundations. The losers are likely to be consumers who will see innovation and investment chilled by regulations that treat the Internet like a public utility.

There’s little evidence the public is demanding these rules, which purport to stop the non-problem of phone and cable companies blocking access to websites and interfering with Internet traffic. Over 300 House and Senate members have signed a letter opposing FCC Internet regulation, and there will undoubtedly be even less support in the next Congress.

The FCC has approved rules that would give the federal government authority to regulate Internet traffic and prevent broadband providers from selectively blocking web traffic. WSJ’s Amy Schatz explains what the new rules really mean.

Yet President Obama, long an ardent backer of net neutrality, is ignoring both Congress and adverse court rulings, especially by a federal appeals court in April that the agency doesn’t have the power to enforce net neutrality. He is seeking to impose his will on the Internet through the executive branch. FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski, a former law school friend of Mr. Obama, has worked closely with the White House on the issue. Official visitor logs show he’s had at least 11 personal meetings with the president.

The net neutrality vision for government regulation of the Internet began with the work of Robert McChesney, a University of Illinois communications professor who founded the liberal lobby Free Press in 2002. Mr. McChesney’s agenda? “At the moment, the battle over network neutrality is not to completely eliminate the telephone and cable companies,” he told the website SocialistProject in 2009. “But the ultimate goal is to get rid of the media capitalists in the phone and cable companies and to divest them from control.”

Under financial overhaul, FTC could gain enforcement power over Internet

April 27th, 2010 · Deception, Democrats, Finance, Government Control, Non-Transparency

The Federal Trade Commission could become a more powerful watchdog for Internet users under a little-known provision in financial overhaul legislation that would expand the agency’s ability to create rules.

An emboldened FTC would stand in stark contrast to a besieged Federal Communications Commission, whose ability to oversee broadband providers has been cast into doubt after a federal court ruled last month that the agency lacked the ability to punish Comcast for violating open-Internet guidelines.

The version of regulatory overhaul legislation passed by the House would allow the FTC to issue rules on a fast track and permit the agency to impose civil penalties on companies that hurt consumers. FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz has argued in favor of bolstering his agency’s enforcement ability.

The Department of Homeland Security, which oversees the Transportation Security Administration, sent federal agents to the homes of two journalists and served them with subpoenas on Tuesday night to try to identify the source of a leak about aviation security changes imposed after the failed attempt on Christmas Day to blow up Northwest Flight 253.

In separate visits, the DHS employees told Chris Elliott and Steve Frischling that their computers and all e-mail correspondence related to the leak of the security directive were being subpoenaed as part of an investigation into who leaked the document to them, which both journalists published on their Web sites.

More than a year after the near-collapse of Wall Street plunged the economy into crisis, a divided House on Friday approved the most sweeping overhaul of the nation’s financial regulatory system since the Great Depression.

“We are sending a clear message to Wall Street: The party is over,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said after the 223 to 202 tally, which failed to attract a single Republican vote.

The Senate voted along party lines Saturday night to overcome a Republican filibuster and bring to the floor a bill that would overhaul the nation’s health-care system.

After days of indecision, the last two Democratic holdouts — Sens. Blanche Lincoln (Ark.) and Mary Landrieu (La.) — joined their caucus in supporting a motion to begin debate. The 60 to 39 vote marks a milestone in the decades-old quest for health-care reform, President Obama’s top legislative priority.

The Senate voted along party lines Saturday night to overcome a Republican filibuster and bring to the floor a bill that would overhaul the nation’s health-care system.

After days of indecision, the two final Democratic holdouts — Sens. Blanche Lincoln (Ark.) and Mary Landrieu (La.) — joined the rest of their caucus in supporting a procedural motion to begin debate. The 60 to 39 vote marks a milestone in the decades-old quest for health-care reform that was reignited by President Obama’s election.

Health Care Control more important than US Troops in Afghanistan.

November 21st, 2009 · Deception, Democrats, Ethics, Government Control, Healthcare

Just ask A Democrat..

If our government put as much effort into fixing one thing at a time as they have in lying, deceiving, and stealing from the American people, imaging what great things could really be accomplished.

Stop the Greed, Government control, Lies and deception.  Work together and find solutions and don’t settle on quick fixes.  Everyone just wants to make history.  The Democrats are under mining their own so that they can be the first to have their bill passed.  Just remember, Hitler too wanted to make history.

I would rather our Government focus ALL the efforts to Bring our Troops home Safely than worry about Heath Care Control and who’s name will appear on it.

In fact, Senate Reid and the Dumb-arcates are looking to take a worthy bill; HR 3590 (Service Members Home Ownership Tax Act of 2009) and make it the vehicle for the Senate health care bill - Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act)

OPM chief floats ideas on personnel system fix

November 21st, 2009 · Corruption, Deception, Ethics, Government, Government Control, Homeland Security, National Security, Non-Transparency, Obama's Scheme, Selling Out the US, Terrorism from Within

By Joe Davidson Friday, November 20, 2009

In greater detail than he has before, Office of Personnel Management Director John Berry outlined his thinking on remaking the federal personnel system during a speech this week.

His address to a Human Capital Management: Federal conference was part of a series of discussions he is holding to help in the monumental task of developing a new civil service system. With the backing of the White House, Berry has established a set of far-reaching goals, including fixing the government’s recruitment and hiring process and overhauling the federal pay system.

His remarks were built around several questions, or pillars, that could provide a framework for a new personnel management system.

Senate launches health-care debate, with 2 Democrats undecided

November 21st, 2009 · Economy, Government Control, Healthcare, Senate

By Paul Kane

In a rare Saturday session, the Senate launched the final hours of debate leading up to a nighttime vote that serves as a critical early test for President Obama’s health-care proposal.

Shaping up as a cliffhanger, all but two of the 60 senators in the Democratic caucus have indicated their support for this early vote, which, if successful, serves to begin what will likely be several weeks of debate on dozens of amendments before a possible final vote before Christmas.

Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) needs the last two holdouts – Sens. Mary Landrieu (La.) and Blanche Lincoln (Ark.) – to reach the 60-vote threshold to move forward with the debate. No Republican senator is expected to vote for this initial step.
